Our local church in Hackney has a monthly clothes recycling day when mums get together and recycle childrens stuff - expecially school unifrms which are so expensive. It is a shame for anything to go to waste in these difficult times.

I am so happy to see other people trying to do the same thing that we have done in Southwick, MA. We even had our city council approve a resolution for an Earth Day this year, which is designed to raise awareness in the community.

We also went a step further and have partnered with Publix to run a food drive next month.

Kudos!

A great way to 'recycle' is to avoid in the first place. This is not applicable in each instance, but if it is we should apply it. For example, instead of buying bottled water, get a water filter and drink tab water. Or instead of carrying things home in plastic bag, always take a carrier bag with you when shopping. When possible, buy food on local farmer's markets which isn't packed in plastic punnets... and the list goes on.

Interesting explanation. So I guess what I'm really doing at home is reusing, though that's fine as long as I still get to help the environment - we all should do our part after all. I just wish there was a way nappies could be reused/recycled, too, since my sister and I seem to be going through tons.

I agree with @christine. It is really much better to a town should have this kind of website. This is really help in saving the environment. Also, people from one town to another when they will be able to see reports of the environmental campaigns they are doing. The building created seem to be interesting to see. But, I am not sure if it is still actively working until now.

Great stuff. As other commenters have pointed out here, most fruit and vegies we buy from supermarkets these days are treated with unnatural chemicals and I am sure that in years to come, we will find much of the prevalence of cancers and serious illness will be linked to these chemicals and preservatives. Organic is the only way to go.

Hello John Goss.
Are you a World Youth Festival attendee? I think you may be, in which case I'm trying to track you down. I'm a student in the USA, writing a book. Drop me a line if you would: nicholas.rutter@yale.edu.
Cheers,
Nick
