WHAT’S GREEN IN BIRMINGHAM?

Climate change (or climate chaos as some people call it) is a reality which will increasingly dominate the 21st century. As citizens of Britain’s second city, we can help create a city to be proud of, leading the way in reducing global warming to help save the planet for future generations.

If you’re looking for green products and services, green spaces, green initiatives and groups in Birmingham UK, start here. With your help, we can help everyone cut the carbon by pooling our knowledge on all the different initiatives in the city to cut CO2 and other greenhouse gases – and other forms of pollution.

GREENING BRUM:

If you are doing anything to help create a sustainable economy in the city, to preserve biodiversity, or to increase awareness of ecological issues, we want to know about it.

Transition Birmingham?

Jun 25th, 2008 by Transition | 1 comment

Guest page supplied by Amanda about implementing the “Transition Towns” concept in Birmingham…

In the face of climate change and peak oil, there is an increasing need for the people of Birmingham to build socially and environmentally sustainable communities. Transition Birmingham is a grassroots response to the looming crises, aiming to create community resilience by drawing on the knowledge, creativity and skills of local people in order to live without the need for oil.

The aim is to:
relocalise the various aspects of the economy (eg food, energy, transport, healthcare), network between relevant groups and individuals, create re-skilling initiaves, and build both inter and intra-community support.

You can find out more about the Transition City idea by reading
the Transition Initiatives Network web page, or in Rob Hopkins new book, ‘The Transition Handbook‘.

How could Transition communities network across Birmingham, and start making a difference in neighbourhoods? Transition belongs to every single person, and Transition Birmingham to every single resident of Birmingham.

I am so happy to see other people trying to do the same thing that we have done in Southwick, MA. We even had our city council approve a resolution for an Earth Day this year, which is designed to raise awareness in the community.

We also went a step further and have partnered with Publix to run a food drive next month.

    Kudos!
