Local green builders?

Mar 20th, 2010 by Chris Duggan | 8 comments

We’ve received a request for a list of local green builders. Can anyone help?

“I live in King’s Heath. I want to undertake thermal cladding on my detached 1910 solid wall house (external & internal as appropriate) and am struggling to find climate-change-savvy local contractors to develop the spec and do the work. I could hire from afar, but local is better, as we know.”

PLEASE add any recommended builders in the comments, with contact details if possible, and what you know of their work. Builders are welcome to add their own credentials – or contact us if you want a page on this site.

I have not done any thermal cladding before but would be intrested in giving you a quote if you give me more information on what products you would like to use, alot of trades in building follow the same guidelines so im sure i would be able to undertake this work, although if i look into it and think i would not be able to do this I would let you know instead of taking on a project that i cannot do.
I ensure all work i undertake is to high standards and the customers are happy with all work.I have a number of previous customers who will be willing to give me a reference if needed, please visit my site to get my contact details, many thanks Martin Jones

Hi its Martin here again just thought i would let you know that you need to click on my name above to be diverted to my website.
Also if you need someone to draw up a specification for your house im sure a local architect would be able to do this for you as they know alot about thermal values, thanks again.

Hi, I have some experience in this field. However totally recladding you’re house seems very disproportionate considering the costs involved. My advice would be to apply for a grant for cavity wall insulation from the energy saving trust if you’re house has cavity Walls. If you’re house is just brickwork alone (double skin) I would recommend placing another stud partition on the inner Walls then insulation of 100-150mm where the Walls are subject to outside winds and heat loss. Then re-plaster the inner Walls.

Like I pointed out earlier anything else can be very costly with payback time periods making the project unjustified. Go to the energy saving trust which has lots of information.

    Kind regards

    Hello

Our conservation group is making a floating nesting island for the wildlife on our local balancing lake.

We need something for flotation and didn’t want to go out and buy lots of polystyrene when loads of packaging needs recycling.

The raft is going to be quite large so small pop bottles are no go, but larger plastic containers may also work well.

Does anyone know where we can get some unwanted large pieces of polystyrene or largish plastic containers?

    Thanks

    Penny
